OK, I exaggerate, but "The Delicate Storm" is under the weather when compared to Blunt's shocking debut, "Forty Words for Sorrow", and "Black Fly Season", his well delicate storm book recent release. Back is John Cardinal, the tight-lipped detective of the fictional town of Algonquin Bay on the very real shores of northern Ontario's Lake Nipissing/5(49).

The Delicate Storm is a strange book. As a follow up to Giles Blunt's Forty Words for Sorrow, readers can be forgiven for expecting a police procedural focused on a new case in Blunt's quasi-fictional Algonquin Bay (which is really just Blunt's home of North Bay, Ontario), /5.

Canada's tiny, frigid Algonquin Bay, home to more bears than people, is relatively quiet during an unexpected winter thaw until two bodies are found in the woods within a three-day span.

One, which may belong to a visiting American accountant, has been chomped on by bears. The other, bearing signs of rape, is identified as nice Dr. Winter Cates, who recently treated Det. When a local man discovers a dismembered arm in his front yard, it seems that the long fingers of fog that strangle the city are also hiding a grisly secret.

I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as the first one, Forty Words for Sorrow. The murders weren't as weird and gruesome as the serial killings in the first book.
